As you were running along the side of the mansion, Alice rounded the corner and tripped and fell over the rock you could have used to smash the window. This trip somehow, as if by magic, caused her hatchet to hit her directly in the face, business-side inwards, killing her instantly. You are safe from Alice but you get the bloody hell away from the mansion as soon as possible.
